I started Breeding dogs when I was 10 years old with my Grandmother, who at the time was raising toy and miniature poodles. But I always wanted a bigger breed of dog.  I went to my parents when I turned 13 and asked if I could have a Labrador retriever or a German shepherd. At that time, they didn't have a lot of money to spend on a puppy and decided to get me a half lab half shepherd. She turned out to be one of the best dogs I have ever owned. For Christmas a few years later, they got me an AKC Chocolate Male Labradors *Coco*. I was hooked. It took me about 6 months to save enough money to get 2 females, both AKC. 1 Chocolate *CJ* and 1 Black *Baby*. My grandparents at that point decided I needed all three colors and got me an AKC Yellow Female *Kaylee*. I started training them for Pheasant hunting. I had a lot of fun with them. After a few years of breeding and keeping from my dogs I had to add new lines in to the mix. I have always been very picky when it comes to my Bloodlines and how my dogs are bread. I wanted both American style and the English to keep a more mellow dog, but also have a really nice working dog. For the most part I have tried to stay in the AKC Standards for the breed. My Males were around 24.5" and weight was around 75 lbs Coco was 25" but he was a big boy at 110 lbs. Most of his Daughters came out staying right in standard 21 to 22" and around 60 to 70 lbs.

My bloodlines are old healthy lines and I have worked Very hard to keep them that way. Every time I add a New line it makes me nerves because you just don't know what is behind that line. My oldest living dog was 16.5 years old when I lost her. Coco lived a nice life tell he was 13.5 years old. When I breed a litter of puppies, I want the buyer to have a loving Companion for next 10 to 15 years. I have seen and heard some very sad things over the years of people getting a puppy and it dies when its under 3 years old. This is so sad they didn't get to really live a life at all, it was still just a puppy.

I gave up breeding for a few years. My parents purchased my Labradors and continued my breeding program. I need some time to get back to where I wanted to be in my life. I had let a very close friend turn my life in to a show for her own benefit and it turned my life upside down.

Getting back to my ruts

About a year and half ago my husband and I purchased back My Labradors and took my house back. It has been a working progress and things take time.  We are still working on a plan to build a kennel *Really our dogs all get along and we have them with us all the time* but still would like to have one built so if we were to leave home for a weekend we can have someone come in and care for them without the fear that one may run off or something happen to one of our dogs.  We treat our dogs like they are our kids. They are family first, breeding second.

My Dream kennel would be each dog has a 10X10 covered run with and an outside exercise area that is around 100 X 100 maybe bigger to pay in.  we for the most part just let them run our 5+ Acres but its not fully Fenced so we couldn't just let someone have them out to run because they have gone looking for us when we are not home. So, the kennel and exercise area are very much needed.

Whelping a Litter of puppies

This can be an all-day job (with our girls it's more like an all-night job as we hand whelp each puppy). We usually have them in our room with a load of washcloths. We make a night out of it trying to stay awake and entertained at the same time. All of our girls enjoy being moms. They are so observant and caring with their babies. We like having the puppies and mom close to us so that we may observe and handle the puppies daily.
